Police Reform

HB 1579 Creates an office of Independent Prosecutor on use of deadly force cases that result in death by a police officer.  The bill had a hearing last Th the 15th in Senate Law & Justice and is in Ways & Means cmte. If you want this bill to pass email the senate majority leader Andy Billig andy.billig@leg.wa.gov.

SB 6009 Prohibits the police tactic known as Hog Tie. This bill was heard last Wed in the house community safety committee and is now in house rules.  If you want this bill to pass email the Speaker laurie.jinkins@leg.wa.gov.

Housing 

HB 2114 This bill would stabilize one's rent in a variety of ways.  It passed the house 54-43 on 2/13 and is now in the senate housing committee - where its companion bill died.

Criminal Justice Reform

HB 2001 This bill would allow more pathways for those in prison to be resentenced.  The bill passed off the house floor on 2/13 and is in Senate Law & Justice committee.

HB 2065 This bill would allow those in our prisons who committed a felony when they were a juvenile to petition to a superior court judge to be resentenced.

 

Bills that died.

HB 1445 AG authority to investigate civil rights violations at the police department level.

HB 1062 Would have banned police deception tactics during custody.

HB 1513 Would lower the number of traffic stops by not allowing police to stop people for lower-level violations (driver's license tabs, taillight broken, small, cracked windshield.

HB 1087 reforms the use of solitary confinement in our state prisons.

 

Community Health Care, Labor, and Housing Bills

SB 6251 Coordinating Reginal Behavioral Crisis Response and Suicide Prevention Services: was heard by the Senate Committee on Health and Long-Term Care on 1/23

 

SB 6216 Establishing a Statewide Network for Student Mental and Behavioral Health: was heard 1/24. Passed out of the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education, referred to ways and means.

 

SB 6007 Grocery Workers Employment Standards – Passed out of Senate Committee on labor and Commerce
